The portraits from our Vergeet-me-niet-gesprekken project are being exhibited publicly for the first time. The canvases will be on display until the end of August.
For this project, younger and older people came together to talk about personal stories, memories and the almost forgotten history of Nijmegen. The canvases feature ten Nijmegen residents from the Benedenstad, Willemskwartier, Wolfskuil and Rozenbuurt neighbourhoods.
They share how they have seen their neighbourhoods change over the years. They reflect on the strong sense of community in the past, special memories and places that have disappeared, as well as what their neighbourhood means to them today.
Through Vergeet-me-niet-gesprekken, we aim to preserve these personal stories and pass them on to a new generation. After all, behind every street and every front door is a story that deserves to be remembered.
Are you in the area this month? Make sure to stop by Bibliotheek Mariënburg and take a look at these special portraits.
Vergeet-me-niet-gesprekken is a Bildung Nijmegen project made possible with the support of the DELA Fonds.
