Heritage & Stories

At Bildung Nijmegen, we see heritage as something living, carried in stories, memories, and encounters. Through our heritage and storytelling projects, we create space to explore personal and shared histories and to connect them with present-day social questions.

We develop and facilitate projects such as From Ra to Ragnarök and Bruggen bouwen (building bridges) at Museumpark Orientalis, where heritage, art, and reflection come together. Alongside these projects, we organize Dont forget about me conversations: guided dialogue sessions that focus on memory, loss, identity, and the ongoing impact of the past, always grounded in personal stories.

In addition, we design and lead thematic historical city walks in Nijmegen. During these walks, participants are invited to read the city as a layered landscape shaped by history, migration, conflict, and connection. By combining local history with conversation and reflection, heritage becomes visible, tangible, and meaningful in public space.

Our heritage activities bring together young people, local residents, makers, and professionals. Stories serve as bridges between generations and perspectives, helping to open up complex themes in an accessible and deeply human way.

These projects are developed in collaboration with cultural and social partners, including Bibliotheek Gelderland Zuid and other local initiatives. In this way, we make heritage recognizable, relevant, and meaningful for a broad audience in Nijmegen and the surrounding region.
