Take Over de Bieb: young people take over the library

3 min read

What would happen if young people got to decide what happens in the library for an entire day?

Together with Bibliotheek Gelderland Zuid, Bildung Nijmegen is developing Take Over de Bieb: a day in which young people from Nijmegen will be given the space to shape the library in their own way. Think music, art, workshops, conversations, performances, gaming, fashion and, most importantly, ideas that come directly from young people themselves.

That is why the programme has not been decided yet. We want to create it together.

A day shaped by young people

Take Over de Bieb is not about creating a programme first and then inviting young people to join it. We want young people to be involved from the very beginning and help decide what the day should look like.

Maybe you want to perform, organise a workshop, create or exhibit something, or start a conversation about an issue that matters to young people. Or perhaps you do not have a concrete idea yet, but would simply like to join the conversation and help shape the day.

That is just as welcome.

We are therefore looking not only for individual young people, but also for youth-led initiatives, collectives, young makers and groups from across Nijmegen who would like to contribute.

By bringing different people, talents and ideas together, we want to create a day with something happening throughout the library: things to discover, experience, discuss and take part in.

From an idea to a youth-led initiative

Take Over de Bieb is being developed as part of Jongeren kiezen wat telt, a Bildung Nijmegen project in which young people decide which issues and ideas matter to them and how they want to turn those ideas into something concrete.

Through brainstorming sessions and co-creation, young people develop their own initiatives. Bildung Nijmegen provides guidance, connections, spaces and practical support, while the ideas and overall direction come from the young people themselves.

The aim of Jongeren kiezen wat telt is not simply to ask young people for their opinions. It is about giving them the opportunity to take ownership, develop their ideas and turn them into real activities and initiatives.

Take Over de Bieb is one of the youth-led initiatives currently being developed through this project, in collaboration with Bibliotheek Gelderland Zuid.

We are looking for young people and youth-led initiatives

Over the coming period, we will continue brainstorming and developing the programme together.

Do you have a talent you would like to share? An idea for an activity? Are you involved in a youth initiative that would like to contribute something? Or would you simply like to join one of the brainstorming sessions and have a say in what Take Over de Bieb becomes?

We would love to hear from you.

You do not need to arrive with a fully developed plan. An initial idea, a talent you would like to share, or simply the enthusiasm to get involved is enough.

Want to get involved?

Would you like to be part of Take Over de Bieb?

Email us at info@bildungnijmegen.nl and use Take Over de Bieb as the subject line.

Tell us briefly who you are, whether you are

joining as an individual or as part of a youth initiative, and what you might like to contribute. We will then get in touch with you about the upcoming brainstorming and co-creation sessions.

Know a young person or youth initiative that should definitely be part of this? Feel free to share this call with them.

Take Over de Bieb is a youth-led initiative by Bildung Nijmegen, developed in collaboration with Bibliotheek Gelderland Zuid as part of

Jongeren kiezen wat telt.

Jongeren kiezen wat telt is made possible with support from vfonds through Loket D.
