ESC Team Volunteering in Guadeloupe – Handi-Surf Festival 2026

From 24 February to 30 March 2026, two participants from Bildung Nijmegen – Olé and Jasper – are taking part in an inspiring European Solidarity Corps (ESC) Team Volunteering project in Guadeloupe.

Together with young volunteers from across Europe, they are contributing to the Handi-Surf Festival, an initiative that promotes inclusive surfing and ocean activities for people with disabilities. The project shows how sport, solidarity and intercultural cooperation can come together to create a more inclusive society.

During their stay, Olé and Jasper support the local organisation in a variety of ways. They help facilitate inclusive surf sessions, assist children and participants with disabilities during activities, and contribute to the organisation and promotion of the festival. They also work closely with local volunteers and the wider community to help ensure the success of both the festival and the association’s daily activities.

Beyond the practical work, the project also offers a meaningful intercultural experience. Volunteers live and work together, exchange perspectives and learn how community initiatives can strengthen inclusion, participation and solidarity across borders.

For Bildung Nijmegen, projects like this play an important role in connecting local young people with international opportunities. Through programmes such as the European Solidarity Corps, young people gain valuable skills, build friendships across cultures and contribute to initiatives that make a real social impact.
