The Festival of Light at Museumpark Orientalis was a wonderful example of how culture and togetherness can cross boundaries. This annual event was dedicated to showcasing the versatility of light in different traditions and religions. From Christmas and Hanukkah to the Buddhist Loy Krathong and ancient Persian tales – it was a colorful mix that brightened the dark days of the year.
Visitors gathered in a magical, atmospheric setting where light not only dispelled the darkness but also warmed the hearts. With cultural activities, musical performances, dialogues, light installations, and festive celebrations, they had the opportunity to explore the meaning of light in various traditions. It was a moment of connection, focusing on shared values like joy, hope, and togetherness.
This year, the event was enriched for the first time with Bruggen Bouwen - Brücken Bauen “Building Bridges," made possible by the Interreg Germany-Netherlands program. Bildung Nijmegen is proud to contribute to this cross-border dialogue, where people from the Netherlands and Germany met, exchanged ideas, and learned more about each other’s cultures in a friendly, open atmosphere. It was a celebration of coming together, celebrating, and building bridges – a wonderful opportunity to enjoy, learn, and connect.
