Clay, creativity and connection at the first Kunst doet Verbinden (Art Connects) workshop

On Friday 5 June, the first clay modelling workshop took place as part of Kunst doet Verbinden, our creative project at Hobbycentrum Nijmegen. Participants came together to explore clay, shape their own ideas and experience how art can create space for meeting, learning and connection.

For many participants, it was their first time working with clay. That made the workshop especially valuable. There was room to experiment, ask questions, make mistakes and slowly create something personal. The atmosphere was relaxed, open and warm. Participants supported each other, started conversations and discovered that art does not have to be perfect to be meaningful.

After the workshop, several participants shared their experiences. Lisa wrote: “I thought the workshop was a nice introduction to clay modelling. There was also a lovely atmosphere in the art space.” Aldar shared: “I really enjoyed the workshop and learned a lot. The atmosphere was friendly and I learned many new things. Thank you for the great guidance!”

Hasret also looked back on the session positively: “I found the workshop very enjoyable and relaxing. It was a nice atmosphere and I learned a lot about clay modelling. I am looking forward to the next time!” For Edağül, doing the activity together was an important part of the experience: “It was a fun activity to do with my bestie. Also a lovely group and a nice atmosphere. Thank you for the good guidance!”

For some participants, the workshop even sparked new motivation to continue creating. Silvia wrote: “I found the workshop really fun and educational, and it genuinely gave me inspiration and motivation to make more things with clay. If you had questions or did not fully understand something, help was there straight away, which was very nice.”

This first session beautifully showed what Kunst doet Verbinden is about: discovering together, meeting new people and using art to build confidence, energy and connection. In the coming weeks, the project will continue with different creative workshops, including oil painting, welding and Tiffany stained glass.
