Today, a special city walk took place in Nijmegen for Dutch and international members of EuroPeers, participants of the European Solidarity Corps (ESC) programme within Erasmus+. During this walk, we explored the rich history of the oldest city in the Netherlands while fostering new connections within the group.
Nijmegen has a fascinating past, from its origins in Roman times to its development as a major trading city in the Middle Ages. The city is home to iconic landmarks such as the Valkhof, the Waalkade area, and the Stevenskerk, each telling a piece of Nijmegen’s story. Throughout the walk, participants learned about these historic sites and the diverse influences that have shaped the city over the centuries.
The city walk was organized by Virgil Eijkhout, a community member of Bildung Nijmegen and EuroPeer, with support from Bildung Nijmegen. Bildung Nijmegen is committed to fostering intercultural understanding, education, and social engagement and is proud to support this initiative.
The day concluded with a friendly get-together at Café de Plak, where participants had the opportunity to reflect on the experience and connect further in an informal setting.
Due to the success of this initiative, we are considering organizing more editions of the city walk in the future. Stay tuned for upcoming dates and new opportunities to discover Nijmegen!
