Nijmegen is a city full of stories. Beneath our feet lie traces of the Romans, medieval city walls, wartime history, reconstruction, water, trade, encounters and change. With Historic City Walks, Bildung Nijmegen invites residents, young people, newcomers, students and anyone interested to rediscover the city together.
During these historical walks, we explore places that tell us something about Nijmegen’s past, present and future. We do not only look at dates and buildings, but also at the stories behind the city. What does heritage mean to us today? Who feels at home in Nijmegen? And how do different generations and communities experience the city we share?
After each city walk, there will be an interactive roundtable session. This is a space to share experiences, ask questions and reflect together on heritage, identity and the future of Nijmegen. In this way, history becomes more than something written in books. It becomes something we can experience, discuss and pass on together.
