Heritage in Motion – Afghan Couture in Nijmegen

We’re proud to share that Heritage in Motion – Afghan Couture in Nijmegen, a project by fashion designer Mina Wardak (Mùska Couture), has been officially approved by the Culture Academy, in collaboration with the Municipality of Nijmegen.

Under the guidance of Stichting Bildung Platform Nijmegen, Mina will spend the next ten months creating a unique collection of ten couture dresses that blend traditional Afghan craftsmanship with contemporary design. Through this work, she brings a nearly lost art form back to life, showing how heritage, identity and creativity can beautifully intertwine.

For Mina, this project is about much more than fashion. It’s a tribute to the women and artisans who came before her and a bridge between cultures and generations. Together with Bildung Nijmegen and her mentors at Janssen & Jansen Design, she is given space to grow as an artist and to inspire others along the way.

The journey will culminate in a major fashion show in Nijmegen, where the full collection will be revealed for the first time. Around this event, Mina will also host workshops on traditional Afghan embroidery techniques, ensuring that the knowledge and stories behind these crafts are passed on to a new generation.

Heritage in Motion is a story of resilience, beauty, and connection, guided by Bildung Nijmegen and born from the belief that culture truly comes alive when we share it together.
